How Art Connoisseurship is Still Going Strong

There is no denying that the art world is still full of mysteries and tides that can change so quickly that you are left wondering. If you are not sure what I am talking about, it is about the Leonardo da Vinci’s painting that was sold for a staggering $450 million last year in November. However, the price is not what was shocking for the world. As a matter of fact, it was the judgement of all the art connoisseurs who were still not sure about the authenticity of the painting. However, there was one person who managed to save the day.

I am talking about Philippe Costamagna, he is the director of Musée des Beaux-Arts in Ajaccio, Corsica and in addition to that, he also happens to be an expert in 16th century Italian paintings, and the most surprising factor is that despite being such an expert, and a go to choice whenever someone wants to get to know whether their painting is authentic or not, he provides his services for free.

According to Philippe Costamagna, his contributions in the world of art has been filled with respect, and hate. Why? Because while he can easily tell the people about whether the art is real or not, it certainly draws some of the negative aspects as well, because not everyone wants to have their art pieces get devalued. According to Philippe Costamagna, the art collectors, or galleries who are selling the art pieces normally get angry upon coming face to face with the reality. During some interviews, he actually recalled several instances where he simply crushed people with the reality. He also states that there have been times when collectors were simply too ignorant to care.

Despite his profession being so interesting, and noble, the one thing that surprises us the most is that Philippe Costamagna. This is because he is the master of his trade, but still does not want to charge money for what he is doing. He has gone on the record to even say that it does not matter whether the reach want an opinion, or the poor, he will provide it as long as they are looking for it. In addition to that, he certainly stated that he would not deny a glass of champagne if he is offered, or a lunch.

This goes to show that a person so respected a well known in the art industry is not after money. As a matter of fact, whatever he is doing, he is doing out of his love for art. In the modern day and age where everyone is after money, Philippe Costamagna is the one who is setting an example, and if you look at in a larger scheme of things, you will realise how he is actually helping people from being scammed. Especially if you are buying an expensive painting, but you want to get an opinion on it before you spend so much money on the painting.
